A Class Action: Traveling Exhibition
A Class Action tells the story of Mendez et al. v. Westminster School District et al, the landmark lawsuit that brought an end to the segregation in California schools. In 1945, seven years before Brown v. Board of Education, five fathers in Orange County brought forth a class-action lawsuit on behalf of 5,000 children, including their own, where they were being forced to attend segregated “Mexican-schools.” Through a mixture of pictures and first-hand accounts this exhibit tells the story of community and grass roots activism bringing about effective change.
